Tatara Systems Selected as a Finalist for CTIA’s 2007 Emerging Technology Award

03/14/2007 - ACTON, MA – Tatara Systems, a leader in mobile convergence, today announced that its Femtocell Convergence Solution has been named as one of three finalists for CTIA’s 2007 Emerging Technology (E-Tech) Award in the “Network Infrastructure: In-Building/Local Area Network Solution” category.    
 
The CTIA E-Tech Award program recognizes the newest and most innovative products and applications in the wireless industry. For 2007, over 200 applications were submitted and judged by an elite panel of industry analysts, prominent members of the media and technology experts. Products were judged on innovation, functionality, technological importance, implementation and overall "wow" factor. Placement (1st, 2nd or 3rd) will be announced at the CTIA E-Tech Awards Ceremony that will be held at CTIA WIRELESS 2007 on Wednesday, March 28th at 3pm at the Mobile Entertainment eXpo Stage within Hall A of the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL.
 
Tatara Systems’ Femtocell Convergence Solution is the industry’s first SIP-based FMC application server to focus on an all-IP approach to core network integration for femtocells. While there are several legacy architectural approaches for deploying femtocell-based solutions, the all-IP architecture utilizes standard communication protocols (i.e. VoIP and SIP) and interfaces directly with the IP-based core network. This allows service providers to immediately achieve the end-to-end cost and service advantages that only an all-IP approach can deliver rather than being constrained by the historical limitations of traditional radio access network based solutions. The all-IP approach provides all of the existing mobile services plus enhanced IP services, wireline service convergence, reduction in network cost, seamless evolution to IMS, and load reduction on the mobile core network.
 
Tatara Systems’ Femtocell Convergence Solution integrates a SIP-based femtocell access point into the mobile operator’s core network delivering key capabilities of the service, including: updating the user’s location to the femtocell in order to enable voice services, providing full messaging services such as SMS, ensuring end-users have access to the same set of supplementary services (e.g. call forwarding and USSD services) on the femtocell network that they have on the macro cellular network, and handoff between the femtocell and the macro cellular networks. In addition, the Tatara Femtocell Convergence Solution will play a key role in enabling enhanced IP services through a femtocell, such as SIP-based access to personal home network content.
